Keith Thurman returned to the ring after an absence of over three years, and he took the WBA International super welterweight title with a third round stoppage of Brock Jarvis in Sydney.

Thurman vs Jarvis topped a stacked No Limit Boxing card.

Thurman (31-1, 23 KOs) was highly rated once upon a time, and was unified welterweight champion for a spell, but his career stalled after suffering defeat to the legendary Manny Pacquiao in 2019.

He would then be absent for over two years, returning to outscore Mario Barrios in February 2022, but injuries again reared their head, and a three-year lay-off followed.

Jarvis (22-2, 20 KOs) was an up and comer promoted by Matchroom, but his career took a turn in October 2022, when his fellow Australian Liam Paro blasted him out inside a round. He had won twice since that setback, albeit at a lower level.

The opener saw a battle of the jabs, with both trying to gain an upper hand, but Jarvis connected with a left hand that drew appreciation from a partisan home crowd. Thurman was much better in round two, as his timing picked up, and the third saw him emphatically close the show.

A huge right hand followed by a volley of punches had Jarvis on the canvas from almost nowhere, and although the Aussie beat the count, a right-left combination had Jarvis over again, and the referee waved the fight off.

Thurman hopes to lure Tim Tszyu into battle next, but may need to shed more rust before taking on that assignment.

Undercard recap

Michael Zerafa (33-5, 21 KOs) kept his career alive, as the Aussie favourite took a seventh-round stoppage win against Besir Ay (19-2, 9 KOs) that secured him the vacant WBO Intercontinental middleweight title.

Cesar Mateo Tapia (18-0-1, 11 KOs) picked up the vacant IBF Intercontinental middleweight title, as he halted Sergei Vorobev (20-3-2, 15 KOs) in the fifth round of their meeting.

At light heavyweight, Kirra Ruston (5-0, 5 KOs) won the battle of the perfect records, as he took the vacant Australian title by forcing Tonga Tongotongo (9-1, 9 KOs) to retire after six rounds of battle.
