After rumors of a potential Adamek vs. Maddalone bout sprung up over the past week, there was also speculation that Tomasz could end up in the ring with one of the Klitschko brothers sooner rather than later. That speculation can end here though, because the Adamek vs. Maddalone fight has been made official, and it will be held on December 9th from Adamek’s home away from home, Newark, NJ.
Tomasz Adamek (42-1, 27 KO’s) returns to Newark’s Prudential Center on Thursday, Dec. 9th when he defends his IBF International Heavyweight title vs. Queens New York’s Vinny Maddalone (33-6, 24 KO’s). Promoted by Main Events, Ziggy promotions and Star Boxing, the event will be part of the Prudential center’s acclaimed Brick City Boxing Series.
Further details will be released for the bout in the next week. One has to commend Adamek for staying so busy. This will be his fourth fight of the year, and his fifth fight in less than 15 months since moving up to heavyweight. However, Maddalone does not represent a step up in class for Adamek as he builds up towards a showdown with Wladimir or Vitali Klitschko. Nor does he offer the size preparation that previous opponent Michael Grant offered. Therefore, this fight is very much another homecoming for Adamek, as perhaps he bides a bit more time to see how the rest of the upcoming heavyweight bouts of the fall and winter play out.
