Greg Cohen of Greg Cohen Promotions wishes to congratulate his fighter, Canadian junior welterweight Tony “Lightning” Luis (17-1, 7 KOs) for his unanimous decision over Albany’s Raphael Luna on Saturday night at the Whitehall Athletic Club in Whitehall, New York.
Fighting in front of an appreciative New York crowd, Luis cruised to a near-shutout victory, while waiting for a bigger fight to materialize.
Considered one of Canada’s top prospects, Luis is currently rated #12 in the world by the WBA. The 25-year-old is a native of Cornwall, Ontario, and has already won the WBC Continental Americas Junior Welterweight Championship via KO 1 over former NABA Champion Alejandro Barrera.
As an amateur, Luis was a seven-time Ontario Champion, a 2006 Eastern NY Golden Gloves Champion, won three National silver medals and defeated 10 Canadian National Champions.
“Tony has all the potential in the world and is rounding into world-class form,” said Cohen. “He looked sensational Saturday night and it won’t be long before he’s back on national television in a meaningful fight. He really has everything it takes to be a world champion.”
