American heavyweight hope Richard Torrez Jr topped a bill at Palms Casino in Las Vegas, and he took a wide points win over ten rounds against Guido Vianello to remain undefeated.
2020 Olympic Silver medallist Torrez (13-0, 11 KOs) was last out in December last year, stopping Isaac Munoz Gutierrez in three rounds, and the only blot on his perfect record was a disqualification win over Joey Dawejko last September. Vegas-based Italian Vianello (13-3-1, 11 KOs) pushed Efe Ajagba all the way before losing a split decision over ten rounds last year, but he upset Arslanbek Makhmudov in an eighth-round stoppage win last August.
It wasn’t pretty, and Vianello was deducted a point as early as the second round for holding, and his attacks were wild, missing by some distance.
When he would miss wildly, he would then clinch, leading to the action becoming increasingly scrappy, although Torrez was hardly setting the world alight either.
Although Vianello looked tired from around halfway, he rallied, landing several decent shots in the later rounds, but exhausted himself ahead of the final two frames, which Torrez largely got the better of, but his output was less than satisfactory, and the fight went to the final bell.

Torrez would take the vacant IBF North American, NABF and WBO NABO belts by two scores of 98-91, and a third at 97-92.

On the undercard, Lindolfo Delgado (23-0, 16 KOs) defended his WBO Latino lightweight title, but had to get a majority decision nod to retain against Elvis Rodriguez (17-2-1, 13 KOs). One judge had the contest a 95-95 draw after ten rounds, while two scores of 96-94 in Delgado’s favour won him the fight.
