Tijuana’s newest female boxing sensation, flyweight Tania Enriquez (5-0, 2KO), is all set for her next fight set for Wednesday, August 5th, at Bar La Wipa in Los Mochis, Sinaloa, Mexico. The young lady of eighteen years of age will be sharing the fight card with fellow Tijuana fighter Abraham “Choko” Rodriguez and Osvaldo “Magnifico” Castro. Enriquez will be facing undefeated Karen Islas of Culiacan, Mexico. The fight card is presented by Pacifico Promotions.
“It is not my first time fighting out of Tijuana,” the charismatic Tania stated with a smile. “In fact this will be my third fight outside of home. It doesn’t bother me. A ring is a ring wherever it is and you have to do the same things in it.”
Tania, the younger sister of former WBO champion Kenia Enriquez, is coming off her most impressive win of her young career. Last May, Tania defeated via unanimous decision the much more experienced Selene Lopez in Mexicali, Mexico, for the title she now holds. In the fight Enriquez suffered a swelling of her right eye in the third round but despite of the injury, she was able to dominate the action with her fluid southpaw technical style.
“That was my first fight scheduled for ten rounds, well actually, my only one,” she explained. “They offered me the opportunity and after talking it over with my team, we decided to take it. It was tough fight, Selene is a warrior, and the experience taught me a lot. I feel that I am ready for bigger things.”
Eric Ibarra, president of True Match Boxing, believes that Tania has all it takes to leave her mark in the sport.
“Tania is a very disciplined young lady, she is always in the gym, with a technique and style,” her promoter said. “She saw the work needed to become a world champion through her sister so we have no doubt that she can equal that goal. She is very young, there are some things that she needs to work on, but like her, we are ready for what is next.”
With a win in Los Mochis, Enriquez will be in line for an international title before the end of the year.
“As of right now I am not thinking about that, I only have five fights so this is only beginning but the confidence that my promoter has in me, motivates me for whatever comes my way,” she said.
