Richard Commey (18-0, 17 KOs) is the latest addition to the Nordic Fight Night on Saturday at the Albertslund MusikTeatret in Copenhagen, and the power-punching Ghanaian is promising excitement in his Danish debut against Samir Ziani (17-1-1, 3 KOs).
‘’I’m really looking forward to Saturday,’’ said Commey. ‘’I’m expecting a tough fight. Ziani has been in with some quality boxers. He is an aggressive southpaw, but I’m confident I have the ability to beat him.
‘’I want to impress, and that’s exactly what I intend to do. The Danish fans can expect excitement and a quality performance with a little something special thrown in!’’
Commey returns having claimed the Commonwealth title in his last fight with unanimous points victory over UK prospect Gary Buckland in July. The world ranked lightweight is eager to build on this success and push for a world title challenge next year.
‘’Winning the Commonwealth title meant a great deal, not only to me and my team but to all Ghanaians. We had chased this belt for some time and we kept hitting brick walls for one reason or another but we persevered and reached our goal.
‘’After so many disappointments for Ghanaians, there was a real sense of joy and achievement and one that will help other Ghanaians realise that they can also step out of the shadows of being used as cannon fodder for UK fighters and compete at a higher level.
‘’Now, my aim is to become world champion. I want to put myself into contention for a world title challenge next year!’’
Said promoter Nisse Sauerland: ‘’We’re delighted to have Richard fighting on our show. He is one of the most exciting lightweights on the planet and will be an excellent addition to the line up.’’
