Undefeated Lightweights Darley Perez (25-0, 19 KOs) and Baha Mamadjonov (11-0, 7 KOs) will meet August 10 in the 10-round main event on ESPN’s Friday Night Fights presented by Corona Extra. Check out a full rundown of the Friday Night Fights card here, along with a video promo for the event.
Main Event:
Perez, a 2008 Olympian for Colombia, is coming off an April second-round knockout win over Alain Hernandez. In September 2011, he TKO’d Oscar Meza in the sixth round.
After that fight ESPN.com’s Dan Rafael wrote, “Perez, who did a good job of setting the pace of the fight, opened a cut over Meza’s right eye in the third round and then opened another cut under his left eye with a right hand in the fifth round. Perez was dominating at this point. His speed and power were too much for Meza. After the sixth round, Meza’s corner asked the referee to stop the fight.
Uzbekistan’s Mamadjonov won a May second-round TKO over Terrance Roy in his last fight.
“Everybody says Baha’s style is like Pacquiao, but I think at this point he’s better than Pacquiao,” said Ken Richardson, Mamadjonov’ s manager and trainer. “Pacquiao probably has a little more punch in his left hand, but Baha has so much better balance and movement and footwork.”
