In his next step towards a world title, unbeaten WBO Youth lightweight champion Mercito “No Mercy” Gesta (19-0-1, 9KOs) when he hosts the rugged Ivan “Relampago” Valle (28-9-3, 24KO) at the Four Points Sheraton Hotel in his hometown of San Diego, CA on Friday, October 22nd. The eight round main event will be televised live by Telefutura’s “Solo Boxeo Tecate” broadcast and presented by Don Chargin Promotions with Jorge Marron Productions in association with Golden Boy Promotions and Bobby D. Presents.
The quick as lighting Gesta has been on a tear lately stopping four out of his last victims inside the distance including Tijuana’s 2008 Prospect of the Year Alain “Konan” Hernandez who he dismantled in :44 seconds of the first round and the hard hitting Oscar Meza who he defeated via 4th round TKO last June. With the win, the southpaw Gesta captured the WBO youth lightweight title. In his last bout, the southpaw “No Mercy” had his way with the overmatched Genaro Trazancos as he stopped him in seven rounds.
The knock out artist Valle of Los Mochis, MX, will be the 22-year-old Gesta’s sternest test for sure as Valle has faced world class fighters such as Javier Jauregui, Urbano Antillon and Humberto Soto. Valle owns wins over Carlos Urias, Enrique Colin and Josafat Perez in his last bout.
“This isn’t so much step up but it’s a step forward fight for Mecito,” Vince Parra, Gesta’s trainer and co-manager, said. “Ivan Valle is a tough veteran who has been in with the best and has competed at a high level with some success. We respect that and are preparing for a tough fight. I think this will be a great test to see where we stand. Gesta can’t wait.”
With the win, Gesta is expecting a climb up the ranks and hopefully a title shot in the first quarter of 2011. “Solo Boxeo Tecate” is broadcast nationally in the United States by Telefutura. Check your local listings for air times.
