Undefeated Mexican prospects Roberto Ortiz and Gilberto Ramirez co-headline on August 25

On Saturday, August 25, some of the Mexico’s most promising young talent will be on display when Roberto Ortiz of Torreon takes on Colombia’s Florencio Castellano and Gilberto Ramirez of Mazatlan battles Miami’s Richard Gutierrez at the Palacio de Dome de municipal del la ciudad de Tulum in Tulum, Mexico. The doubleheader will be televised in Mexico on Televisa and in the United States on FOX Deportes.

In the 12 round main event, unbeaten Ortiz (25-0-1, 21 KO’s) defends his WBC Silver Super Lightweight title for the fifth time against Castellano (16-6, 13 KO’s), while in the co-main event, scheduled for 10 rounds in the middleweight division, undefeated Ramirez (22-0, 19 KO’s) takes on veteran contender Gutierrez (26-9-1, 16 KO’s).

Ortiz vs. Castellano, a 12 round bout for the WBC Silver Super Lightweight title set for Saturday, August 25 at the Palacio de Dome de municipal del la ciudad de Tulum in Tulum, Mexico, is presented by Golden Boy Promotions and Pepe Gomez Promotor Deportivo and sponsored by Corona, Periodico QueQui, Quintana Roo Tourism and Cancun Tourism. Doors open at 6:00 p.m. CT and the first fight begins at 7:00 p.m. CT. The Televisa broadcast will air on Canal 5 at 10:30 p.m. CT and the FOX Deportes broadcasts will air at 10:00 p.m. ET/7:00 p.m. PT.

Torreon’s Roberto “Massa” Ortiz (25-0-1, 21 KO’s) is a versatile competitor who can turn the lights out on opponents at any time. Approaching his prime at the age of 26, and with impressive knockout victories over then 23-0 Antonio Lozada Jr., then 67-fight veteran Carlos Urias and then 18-1 Cesar Chavez, Ortiz is on his way towards a world title shot. Following a non-title win over Abraham Gomez in June in his last fight, Ortiz will look to stay on the road to a world championship when he takes on Castellano on the 25th.

Florencio “Chombo” Castellano (16-6, 13 KO’s) just celebrated his 10 year anniversary in the sport and there would be no better present for him than to score the upset over Ortiz on August 25. A hard-hitting 32-year-old with high ambitions in the fight game, La Boquilla native Castellano has faced top contenders Lucas Matthysse and Joan Guzman over the course of his career proving he can keep up with top-level talent.

21-year old southpaw Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez (22-0, 19 KO’s) has the size, power and talent to do big things in the middleweight division and he’s shown off plenty of potential thus far. The WBC Youth middleweight champion since 2010, Ramirez has won 14 of his last 15 fights by knockout, with only Jaime Barboza going the distance in their April fight. Coming off of an eighth round technical knockout over Isaac Mendez in June, Ramirez plans on starting a new knockout streak later this month against Gutierrez.

Seasoned Colombian battler Richard “La Lamina” Gutierrez (26-9-1, 16 KO’s) has faced off against world-class competition for years, including Joshua Clottey, Teddy Reid, Alfredo Angulo, Luis Carlos Abregu and Vanes Martirosyan. The 34-year-old, who now fights out of Miami, will bring everything he has to the ring on August 25 as he looks to upset Ramirez.
