On Friday night August 23rd, Kings Boxing Promotions presents a big night of boxing at the beautiful Valley Forge Casino Resort. In the main event, undefeated Pennsylvania Lightweight champion Naim “The Dream” Nelson takes on Ryan Belasco in a bout scheduled for ten rounds and will be contested for Nelson’s Pennsylvania Lightweight title.
Nelson of Philadelphia has a record of 10-0 with one knockout and has been a pro since 2011.
The twenty-three year old won the Pennsylvania State title with a thrilling ten round unanimous decision over Victor Vasquez. Since that fight, Nelson has a unanimous decision over Osnel Charles and his last bout, Nelson scored a eight round unanimous decision over veteran Georgi Kevlishvilli on March 15th at the Valley Forge Casino Resort.
Belasco of Wilmington, Delaware has a record of 18-5 with three knockouts. The 29 year-old turned pro in 2006 and has faced all of the top Lightweights in the area. He owns a 7th round stoppage over Vasquez; a six round unanimous decision over Jesus Barbosa.
Belasco is on a four fight winning streak which includes his most recent outing where he scored a six round split decision over Bryne Green on February 8th which avenged an earlier split decision defeat to Greene.
In the eight round co-feature, WBA number-thirteen ranked Heavyweight Travis Kauffman returns in a scheduled eight round bout against Maurenzo Smith. Kauffman, who was a decorated amateur turned pro in 2006 and has amassed a record of 24-1 with 18 knockouts.
Kauffman won his first eighteen bouts and had quality wins over Malachy Farrell; Livin Castillo and William Shahan.
After suffering his only blemish where he was controversially stopped by Tony Grano, Kauffman, 27 years-old has won six in a row. He has wins over Chris Koval and former world title challenger Ross Thompson. Kauffman is coming off a second round stoppage over Willie Perryman on February 8th.
Smith of Houston, Texas has a record 11-6-2 with eight knockouts. Smith has wins over undefeated Robbie McClimans and veteran Hector Ferreyro. He is coming off a third round stoppage defeat to Tor Hamer on May 15th. The combined record of Smith’s last four opponents is 62-2.
A packed undercard will see Frankie De Alba (8-1-2, 3 KO’s) of Reading, PA taking on Osnel Charles (9-6-1, 1 KO) of Atlantic City in a six round Lightweight bout. In a eight round Middleweight bout, Harry Joe Yorgey (27-2-1, 12 KO’s) of Bridgeport, PA takes on George Rivera (13-8-1, 4 KO’s) of Charlottesville, VA.
