After their epic battle for the undisputed heavyweight world championship a couple of weeks ago, Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk have agreed terms to run it back on December 21st.
Stipulations were originally in place for a rematch between Fury and Usyk to take place in October, however so gruelling was their initial encounter that it was decided a date towards the end of the year made more sense for both parties.
The pair were actually scheduled to first lock horns in February, however this was pushed back after the Brit sustained a brutal cut in sparring less than two weeks out from fight night.
And Usyk’s promoter, Alex Krassyuk has admitted he is not ruling out a second instalment between the two maestros being delayed further.
Speaking to Talksport Boxing, Krassyuk teasingly stated: “You never know,” referencing Fury’s withdrawal from the February date.

“This is the date we were looking at and this is the date we confirmed with His Excellency and we gave our word on it so it’s going to happen on December 21st.
“It is scheduled to happen on December 21st but dealing with our opponent you never know how it works, but we are focused on this date.”
In a much more entertaining fight than most pundits were predicting, Usyk defeated Fury via split decision, dropping and almost stopping his much larger foe in a dramatic ninth round.
The Ukrainian was forced to endure serious punishment himself in the first half of the fight, and there were rumours circulating online that he had sustained a broken jaw after he was taken to hospital after the decision was announced.
However, Krassyuk rubbished these claims, stating the trip was merely precautionary after an old dental issue flared up.
Apparently Tyson Fury lied about Oleksandr Usyk going to the hospital for a broken jaw, because Usyk eventually showed up for Post-Fight Conference: #boxing #FuryUsyk #RingofFire pic.twitter.com/pDfxyw9rgD

“No, this is not true, as I spoke at the post-fight conference I gave some explanation.
“He had an old injury, his tooth implant on the upper jaw was injured again so he took all the medical prescriptions and now he’s recovering from that.”
Though fans could be forgiven for wanting to see Fury and Usyk lock horns again as soon as possible, a slightly later date is likely to be conducive to seeing both men at their best and a more enthralling contest as a result.
