Brandon “Bam Bam” Rios returns to the ring on HBO Boxing on August 2nd, taking on Diego Chaves. Rios hasn’t fought since last November, when he lost a one-sided match against Manny Pacquiao. Now he looks to emerge in the welterweight scene as a legitimate contender in the division.
In his path is the once-beaten Chaves, an Argentinean slugger whose lone loss came at the hands of the harder-hitting and quick-rising Keith Thurman. For Rios, this is a good opportunity to make a favorable impression against a fighter who will be there for him to hit.
However, as he continues to move up in weight, he loses some of the size and strength advantages he had back at lightweight, so it’s going to be interesting to see how he fares at 147 lbs.
