It wasn’t that long ago when Danny Jacobs was a fast-rising middleweight contender, and as an undefeated fighter backed by Golden Boy, one of the biggest prospects in the sport. How things changed. He has been through a great deal since then, and no, not just his upset loss… his life-threatening battle with cancer. Watch this great video feature to learn more about this story.
After he got back from a USO tour overseas visiting troops, he began noticing symptoms. He had to walk with a cane and then a walker as his legs became weaker and he lost his physical capabilities. After going to the ER, they told him he had a pinched nerve. Of course, that wasn’t the case, and soon he was paralyzed in a wheel chair.
They went to a neurologist, and he had a tumor the size of a handball growing around his spine, and he needed immediate surgery. The surgery was successful, but he was told he was lucky to be alive.
He went in 25 times for radiation, and went through a grueling rehabilitation schedule, including being told he would never fight again.
Now he’s back, and he’s aiming to work his way back up the middleweight division and toward title contention. It’s an amazing and inspirational journey, and certainly Danny Jacobs has to have more supporters than ever before.
