Nonito Donaire vs. Vic Darchinyan II takes place this weekend, in a rematch which has been years and years in the making. Right here, you’ll find a special video preview and fight analysis from Al Bernstein. Bernstein shares his thoughts on the match and what each of the fighters needs to do in order to come away victorious.
For both fighters, it’s their first time competing at the featherweight division limit of 126 lbs.
Can Darchinyan solve the reach and power of Donaire? Can Donaire regain his form after a disappointing performance against Guillermo Rigondeaux? Is this just a mismatch, as Darchinyan is simply older and much farther removed from his best? Another interesting note is that Donaire’s father is back with his training team.
Bernstein also points out that while Darchinyan has seen some success at bantamweight and above, that all of his career losses, besides the first Donaire match, have been at these higher weights. He’s not the same fighting force he was, even if he’s still successful.
As I always say with these fight previews from Al Bernstein, it’s great to see him breakdown the fights and the fighters, even when he isn’t the guy who will be calling the action from ringside.
Enjoy the keys to victory from Al Bernstein and keep checking back for more fight week updates and news for Donaire vs. Darchinyan II.
