Trainer Robert Garcia is a busy man. The perennial contender for Trainer of the Year honors has one of the deepest stables in the sport. So, while he helps brother Mikey get ready for an upcoming title defense against Juan Carlos Burgos in less than one week, there’s still plenty of other fighters and events on his mind.
In this video interview with Garcia, he talks about some of those big plans coming up in 2014. That includes Nonito Donaire’s next fight, which looks to be slated for May, as well as what’s next for both Brandon Rios and Marcos Maidana. Maidana was holding out hope that he would be able to land a fight against Floyd Mayweather, but is instead opting for his rematch against Adrien Broner.
Rios, meanwhile, would love to get a shot against Ruslan Provodnikov or Timothy Bradley. Of course, he’s coming off two straight defeats, so I’m not quite sure how we’d be able to land those fights.
As for Donaire’s next fight, there are plenty of options in and around his division. It seems as if it takes a big name to get Donaire truly motivated for a fight though, so it’ll be interesting to see in what direction he goes in at this point.
