On Saturday night, Oscar De La Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions held a charity event for CharityVision, a Utah-based non-profit providing medical equipment, clinics, vision screenings, eye surgeries, and training to doctors in poverty-stricken areas across the globe.
While there were several pro fights and notable prospects appearing on the card, for the main event, there was something else. The headline bout was an exhibition between Oscar De La Hoya himself and Mario Lopez. Right here, you can watch the full De La Hoya vs. Lopez bout.
Of course, nothing all too much happened in the exhibition, which was a brief sparring session. The two men wore thick sparring gloves and headgear, and De La Hoya didn’t seem too intent on throwing many punches. For the most part, he let Lopez show off his skills, which he’s been honing at the Wild Card gym, by coming forward and working behind his jab.
No complaints though, as again, it’s all for charity. The event was expected to raise somewhere in the range of $1 million, an absolutely absurd number for a single evening. So credit to all involved, and whether it’s an exhibition or not, it takes some balls to get in the ring with a pro fighter!
