Andre Ward Already in Super Six Semifinals, and Picked by Fans to Win the Entire Tournament:
Barring any further injuries or dropouts, the Super Six semifinals have already been set, and the four combatants will be Andre Ward, Arthur Abraham, Carl Froch and Glen Johnson. With Ward vs. Bika and Froch vs. Abraham this weekend though, it’s the perfect opportunity to see where all of the fighters stand as they prepare for the semifinals and then the championship bout, both of which should take place in 2011. Fans have already made their choice though on who they think will be the winner, and it’s a certain undefeated gold medal winning Olympian based out of Oakland, California.
ProBoxing-Fans.com has been running a poll asking who fans think will win the Super Six. As of the time of this writing, here are the full tallies and results from this unofficial Super Six fan poll:
- Andre Ward: 52% (96 votes)
- Arthur Abraham: 18% (33 votes)
- Carl Froch: 18% (33 votes)
- Glen Johnson: 13% (24 votes)
As the results show, more than half of fans think that Andre Ward is going to win the Super Six tournament, and they certainly don’t feel like Sakio Bika is going to do anything to change that. Ward vaulted to the top of everyone’s mind after his onesided domination of Mikkel Kessler, and he further cemented his status by outclassing Allan Green. After Ward though, fans are pretty split about who might be second in line.
Froch and Abraham were exactly tied when this was wrote, and obviously opinions will change on these two following the results of their Stage 3 clash this weekend. Both men wield big power and showcase difficult styles to solve, and the winner of that bout may catapult himself into favorite status depending on how it plays out.
What is a little bit surprising is that Glen Johnson, late-late tournament sub, is being given almost equal ground as to both Froch and Abraham. Johnson is of course coming off that great KO of Green, and he’s never to be doubted, but Ward, Abraham and Froch are no Allan Greens, and would be much less susceptible to that kind of upset.
Of course, that’s why they fight the fights, and none of the polls in the world will matter as all of these fighters get in the ring with one another. Ward is the favorite amongst fans in our poll, bringing in more than half of the votes, but every fighter is seen as a very live participant, and anything can happen in Stage 3 and the semifinals to change our opinions.
