Frank Warren has shot down claims Tyson Fury bended the rules before his rematch with Oleksandr Usyk a couple of weeks ago.

Warren could only watch on from ringside as Fury was outpointed for a second time in seven months by Usyk, who retained his WBC, WBA and WBO heavyweight world titles in Riyadh.

Some in the media had suggested that ‘The Gypsy King’s shorts were much higher than regulation, though referee Roberto Ramirez Jr did not seem to have any issue.

And Warren, who has promoted the two-time heavyweight champion for the last seven years, has come out firing.

In a recent interview with BoxNation, the Queensberry boss described one journalist who raised the issue as an “idiot.”

“One of the journalists talking about him wearing his shorts up to underneath his nipples… bulls**t is it.

“The referee came in the dressing room before the fight. The way he wore them was legal.

“Did you hear one complaint about that from the other side? None at all.

“Some idiot in there who knows nothing about boxing coming out with that and it’s just, I don’t know, I just find it ridiculous some of this stuff.”

Either way, the matter proved to be inconsequential, as Usyk once again proved to be too good for the Morecambe favourite with all three judges declaring him a 116-112 winner.

Despite now being 36 and suffering another defeat, Fury has reportedly told those around him he intends to continue boxing, and a long awaited domestic showdown with Anthony Joshua appears destined to finally land in 2025.

Joshua is also coming off a defeat after his crushing fifth round stoppage at the hands of Daniel Dubois back in September.

In the aftermath of the loss, ‘AJ’s promoter Eddie Hearn revealed the only two options for his charge were a rematch with Dubois or a blockbuster against long-time rival Fury.
