As the undisputed heavyweight world title fight between Tyson Fury and Oleskandr Usyk draws ever nearer, boxing fans will be crossing their fingers in the hope that there are no further delays.

The historic clash between Fury and Usyk was due to take place in February, however was pushed back after the Brit sustained a deep cut above the eye less than two weeks out.

So severe was the wound that many feared the rescheduled date of May 18th could prove to be too soon for ‘The Gypsy King’, though it appears to have healed exceptionally well.

However, his promoter Frank Warren has stated the delay may cause his charge a different issue entirely – peaking too soon.

During a recent appearance on Talksport, Warren explained that the WBC heavyweight champion is ready to go to battle with Usyk right now, just over a month out from fight night.

“He came back into training again in a position where he hasn’t got to lose any weight.

“He actually could fight tomorrow, he’s got a good weight at the minute.

“The problem at the moment, if it is a problem, is that he doesn’t peak too soon.

“If you look at him, he’s jumping out of skin. He’s in tremendous shape, if you look at him facially and see how cut he is.

“I’ve been around him enough now to know when he’s in a good place, and he’s in a very good place.”

Warren will hope his fears do not come to fruition and that Fury is at his very best next month, which most observers feel he will need to be if he is to defeat the unified champion.

The 35-year-old looked a shadow of himself against Francis Ngannou back in October, however he already looks to be in much better physical condition than he was that night.

Usyk has not boxed since his stoppage win over Daniel Dubois in Poland last August, though appears to have stayed in fight shape since then as he looks to score what would be the greatest win of his already remarkable career.
