When boxing superstars Floyd Mayweather and Canelo Alvarez meet at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas to determine who is “THE ONE”, they will fittingly be competing for a special prize worthy of such an event. A solid gold prize, that is, in the form of a special one of a kind solid gold belt to be presened to the winner of the biggest boxing event of 2013 provided by the WBC.
Shown to the media by WBC President Jose Sulaiman for the first time last Tuesday, the green and gold belt, which was designed by a Mexican artisan, measures 1.28 meters in length by 30 centimeters in height and is made of pure gold and Italian leather. It also includes the Mexico Tourism logo, which will mark the winner as an ambassador of Mexico, not only in Mexico, but throughout the world.
In attendance for the unveiling in Mexico City were some of Mexico’s biggest boxing names, including Ultiminio Ramos, Pipino Cuevas, Isaac Bustos, Rafael Limón, Ana María Torres, Daniel Estrada, Yesica Chávez and Adrián Hernández.

My take on all of this is hey, once your sanctioning body feels it has enough cash lying around to make you a belt out of solid gold, maybe they’re making too much money, right? But hey, maybe that’s just me.
