Trainer Kevin Barry says Joseph Parker would be open to the possibility of a vacant WBO World title shot against Oleksandr Usyk.
The WBO belt currently held by unified champion Anthony Joshua has been at the centre of talk, after a two-fight deal was agreed with Tyson Fury for an all-British clash in 2021.
With the pair compelled to fulfill mandatory obligations, in Dillian Whyte, (WBC) Kubrat Pulev (IBF) and Oleksandr Usyk (WBO) respectively, there has been whispers of the title being relinquished, which would put Parker, who is the #2 ranked contender by the WBO, next in line for a crack at his old strap.
Barry, long-time trainer to Parker told Pro Boxing Fans they would “welcome it with open arms” and admits they’re keen to test Usyk, following his move up to Heavyweight from the Cruiserweight division.
Barry also discussed Guido Vianello’s victory in ‘The Bubble,’ as Top Rank returned to duty in Las Vegas, Parker’s possible return in New Zealand in September, a rematch with Whyte and a potential undisputed clash between Joshua and Fury.
