Two of the biggest names in British heavyweight boxing were set to fight this coming Saturday, albeit in different countries. Anthony Joshua was scheduled to make his fourth pro fight, while David Price was looking to come back for the first time since his defeats to Tony Thompson. Now, each man has had his upcoming bout delayed, one for injury, and another for sickness.
Joshua Suffers Shoulder Injury
Anthony Joshua MBE been forced to postpone of his clash with Dorian Darch on December 14 with a shoulder injury – but British Super Middleweight champion Paul Smith has been added to the bill at the ExCeL London, live on Sky Sports.
The Olympic Gold medal hero was set to return to the ExCeL in London to face the Welshman, returning to the scene of his London 2012 triumph for his fourth pro contest, hunting another KO win.
Sadly for the 23 year old, a shoulder issue has flared up and after consultation with medical staff it has been decided he will now meet Darch in Cardiff on February 1.
Price Out with Virus
A virus picked up in training camp has forced David Price (15-2, 13 KOs) to postpone his December 14 scheduled bout with Evengy Orlov (14-12-1, 10 KOs).
‘’It is unfortunate but these things happen and one has to act responsibly,‘’ said promoter Kalle Sauerland. ‘This is a minor set back and has no effect on our plans for Pricey. He will be back in the ring at the beginning of the New Year.’’
‘’Obviously I am disappointed,’’ said Price. ‘’I was looking forward to my first fight back but I wouldn’t be doing myself or my fans justice by taking the fight when I am anything less than 100%.’’
