In a few weeks, HBO will showcase Top Rank’s “Welcome to the Future” card from the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas. The card is headlined by the Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. vs. Marco Antonio Rubio (fake) WBC middleweight title fight. The co-feature is an extremely intriguing contest, as the Filipino Flash, Nonito Donaire, moves up to super bantamweight for the first time in his career and meets ex-titlist Wilfredo Vazquez Jr. Right here, you can watch two separate video previews and promos for Welcome to the Future featuring some of the biggest names in the sport, Chavez Jr. and Donaire.
The main event sees Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. taking on the toughest test of his career, in the hard-hitting Mexican slugger Marco Antonio Rubio. If he gets past this, he’ll be in even deeper waters next, as he’s been mandated to fight the winner of the Sergio Martinez vs. Matthew Macklin contest.
First though we’ll all see Donaire vs. Vazquez Jr. The Filipino Flash will make his 122 lb debut against one of the better guys in the division, former champion, and son of a champion (like JCC Jr. in the main event), Wilfredo Vazquez Jr. He’ll be looking to continue his ascent up the pound for pound charts as he searches for big paydays and mega-fights.
