This weekend was loaded with great boxing action, and the biggest fights produced not only sensational action, but also shocking results as well. Both the Berto vs. Ortiz results and JuanMa Lopez vs. Salido results ended up in completely unpredictable fashion, and along the way, we saw tons of knockdowns, a legitimate Fight of the Year contender, and more. With the crazy ending to these bouts, the rankings in each of those divisions, welterweight and featherweight, have been shaken up as well.
- Updated welterweight division rankings
- Updated featherweight division rankings
Berto had been considered the next best thing at 147 lbs after the big names of Pacquiao and Mayweather. Now though, he has lost his “0”, although he showed some great heart and put on an excellent show. Meanwhile, Ortiz has been followed around by detractors since his loss to Maidana at 140 lbs, but at welterweight, he has burst onto the scene, and immediately becomes a champion and one of the division’s best with his win.
Of course, another top fighter lost his 0 on Saturday evening. Juan Manuel Lopez was stopped by Salido, and finally his deficiencies in terms of defense and chin caught up to him. How far does he drop down the featherweight rankings? How high does Salido climb following the huge upset? What does it mean for Yuriorkis Gamboa, who not only continues to dominate, but also was able to defeat the tough as nails Salido when the two fought?
Check out the updated 126 lbs and 147 lbs rankings above, keeping in mind the shocking Berto vs. Ortiz results and Lopez vs. Salido results. One of the best weekend’s to be a boxing fan in quite some time!
