De La Hoya’s Twitter Announcement
Recently on Twitter, Oscar De La Hoya decided to tease the boxing public a bit, with an announcement of an impending announcement that will “shake the boxing industry”. What will it be, and will it really be that important?
Here’s the famous Tweet:
While we can only hope it’s about the return of Winky Wright, set to face the winner and/or loser of Canelo Alvarez vs. Shane Mosley, or perhaps a plan for De La Hoya to come out of retirement and face Fernando Vargas again – I hope you know I’m joking here, but it’s not like that would be out of the realm of reasonable matchmaking according to GBP’s standards it would seem at times – that doesn’t seem likely.
The most common guess being passed around is that it has to do with a deal that Golden Boy has reached to get boxing back on network television. That’s certainly something they have been working on, and with NBC Sports showcasing their new Fight Night Series, and EPIX getting into the televised fight game as well, there’s been some momentum growing behind this movement. Golden Boy can basically wipe out those moves publicity-wise in one fell swoop if they announce a legit, live series of network TV boxing cards.
The other topic that all boxing fans are continually thinking about, of course, is the potential Floyd Mayweather vs. Manny Pacquiao fight. Considering where we’re at right now, it certainly doesn’t seem like any immediate announcement will help along the Pacquiao vs. Mayweather situation. They each have their first fight of the year locked in – before Mayweather gets locked up – and there’s way too many variables, ego and obstacles, as well as time left until the fall, to think that anything major regarding that would come out now.
So does Golden Boy have boxing’s return to network TV planned? What else does Golden Boy have in store? We’ll keep you posted when we find anything out, so be sure to keep checking back for more breaking boxing news here at ProBoxing-Fans.com.
