In the wake of the sensational destruction that Pacquiao put on Margarito this past Saturday night, and with a great fight coming up between Paul Williams and Sergio Martinez in their anticipated rematch on November 20, there will be yet another great fight looming on November 27 between the great Juan Manuel Marquez and the crowd pleasing Australian sensation Michael Katsidis for Marquez’s WBA, WBO, and Ring lightweight titles.
The MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada will be rocking on November 27 in anticipation of fireworks to when Marquez and Katsidis take center stage. With Marquez’s exceptional counter-punching style, and Katsidis’ aggressive pressure style, which fighter will have the advantage?
This fight will boil down to whether or not Marquez will be able to deal with Katsidis’ constant pressure. Marquez is known in past fights to start off slow, but when Marquez warms up, he usually figures his opponent out and turns the fight around to his advantage.
If Katsidis has any chance in this fight on November 27, he cannot let Marquez rest for one second and must take advantage of Marquez’s slow start by creating the constant pressure he is well known for and possibly producing an early knoc down in the fight, which Marquez has been susceptible to in the past.
This fight is easy to break down because you have the all action Katsidis, who does not mind taking punishment to get his punches in, and a calculating counter-punching destroyer who gets better and better as the fight goes on in Marquez. When these two boxing styles come together it should equal out to an explosive, action fight.
Both fighters will have a huge upside no matter who wins the fight.
Katsidis will increase his status to face the top fighters between 135 and 140 pounds with a win over the great Juan Manuel Marquez. I feel that even if Katsidis ends up on the losing side, his style will always give him the opportunity to land big fights against top competition.
The great Juan Manuel Marquez will continue to cement his legacy as one of the best fighters of his generation with a win over the tough Katsidis, and if Marquez stumbles against the all-action Katsidis, if will not tarnish his legacy considering the amount of stiff competition Marquez has faced in the past, and his advanced age. He of course gave Manny Pacquiao all he could handle in two great fights, although he came up a little bit short.
The former IBF super-featherweight and IBF featherweight champion Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero could be the potential opponent for the winner of this fight given that Guerrero recently won the WBO Inter-Continental lightweight title on November 6 of this year, and Guerrero expressed interest in fighting Marquez when Marquez squared off against Juan Diaz in the rematch back in July of the year.
Other potential fights for Marquez and Katsidis if Guerrero is not the opponent could be WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan or the undefeated EBU and British lightweight champion John Murray. Marquez has also been vocal about wanting to move up in weight to make a potential third fight with the Pound for Pound King Manny Pacquiao, although Pacquiao has been moving in another direction
At the end of the day, all signs point to Marquez winning the fight because Katsidis’ aggressive boxing style will soon be figured out by Marquez and he will just counter-punch Katsidis to death. The only chance Katsidis will have in this fight is to apply pressure and hope that it wears down the older fighter. In the meantime, whatever happens, just sit back and enjoy the show because the battle between Juan Manuel Marquez and Michael Katsidis has the potential to be explosive.
