Ben Whittaker has opened the door to a future showdown with Chris Eubank Jr, despite being two weight classes heavier than his countryman.

Eubank Jr and Whittaker, who are both signed to Ben Shalom’s BOXXER, will be competing in separate bouts on the undercard of the undisputed light heavyweight title clash between Artur Beterbiev and Dmitry Bivol on October 12 in Saudi Arabia.

The prospect of an unlikely meeting between the flash British pair has been floated around in recent weeks and 2020 Olympic silver medalist, Whittaker, who faces Liam Cameron in his ninth professional fight at light heavyweight, believes his youth and size would prove pivotal if they fought.

“If the money’s there, sign me up. I’m bigger, I’m younger, I’m fresher. I wouldn’t turn it down,” the 27-year-old told Sky Sports.

“But it is a bit of a weird fight that’s come about. Like I said, it would be a fun one to tick off the list.

“I’m bigger.

“They make weight classes for a reason and I think he’s coming to the end of his career.

“I’m in the middle of starting my career so for me it’s probably the right time to catch him.

“I just tick every department. He’s got experience. He’s been in there in some bigger fights of course, but I just think if it did come to it, I’m better.”

Eubank Jr fights for the first time since gaining revenge over Liam Smith last September when he meets former world title challenger, Kamil Szeremeta in a middleweight bout.

‘Next Gen’ was in negotiations to face unified super middleweight champion, Canelo Alvarez, but was unable to finalise a deal and the Mexican great opted to defend his world titles against Edgar Berlanga on September 14 in Las Vegas.

The Brighton man admits a clash with ‘The Surgeon’, whose showboating antics have gone viral and amassed him almost 3m followers on Instagram, appeals to him.

“I didn’t know that was a conversation,” the 34-year-old told the Toe2Toe podcast.

“Two entertaining, brash [fighters] who love to put it on the line and show off in that ring, of course, that’s a sexy fight.

“I’ve watched him. It’s pretty insane how popular he is in terms of social media.

“He’s getting a lot of attention, I don’t know how many fights he’s had but he hasn’t fought anybody.

“I’ve had the fights.

“But his style and everything he’s doing is getting him a lot of attention on social media, which is great.

“That’s really what England needs. It’s very rare to have that in the UK.”
