Dillian Whyte believes Tyson Fury must switch up his approach to stand any chance of gaining revenge over Oleksandr Usyk in their rematch.

Fury and Usyk clash for the second time on December 21 in Riyadh, seven months after the Ukrainian claimed a split decision victory to win the undisputed heavyweight championship.

Whyte, who suffered a sixth round stoppage loss to ‘The Gypsy King’ in April 2022, insists his former rival must implement similar game plans to the ones which saw him emerge victorious against both Steve Cunningham and Deontay Wilder.

“Tyson Fury is either on the front foot or the back foot,” the 36-year-old told talkSPORT Boxing.

“But Usyk seems to be able to do both at a split second.

“He can go back, front, switch.

“It’s very difficult, but I believe Fury still stands a chance of beating him, because Fury is the much bigger man and he has the size advantage.

“I think he should fight him like he fought Deontay Wilder the second time.

“I think that’s his only chance [of beating him].

“There are risks, but he needs to smother him.

“Fight him like he fought Steve Cunningham, that’s how he needs to try and fight Usyk.

“Be dirty and have a go.”

Fury suffered the first professional defeat of his 36-fight career, losing his WBC heavyweight title in the process.

Usyk relinquished the IBF belt now held by Daniel Dubois, to ensure a second outing with Fury, with the WBA ’super’, WBO and WBC belts on the line in the rematch.

Whyte, who returns to the ring for the first time since March when he faces Ebenezer Tetteh on December 15 in Gibraltar, insists Fury cannot be written off completely.

“It’s a very hard task,” the Brixton man added.

“It’s heavyweight boxing.

“You can’t write him off and say, ‘he’s going to lose again’ because he’s been on the canvas so many times and he’s got up and won.

“He’s had rematches.

“He’s been counted out and come back and got back to the top of the game again.”
