Dillian Whyte continued on the comeback trail, recording a seventh round retirement win against Ebenezer Tetteh in Gibraltar on Sunday.

Whyte (31-3, 21 KOs), who has seen his career stall after a failed drug test, which he was subsequently cleared of, was last seen in a low-key third round retirement win against Christian Hammer in Ireland in March, whilst Tetteh (23-1, KO20) came into this one best-known for a one round defeat to Daniel Dubois in 2019, but he had won four times since that reverse, all inside schedule in Africa.

Tetteh swung for the fences in the first round, and tagged the 36-year-old Brit with some heavy shots, but ‘The Body Snatcher’ held firm.

The Ghanaian again went on the attack in the second, and the two traded power shots, although Tetteh was looking tired even so early on.

Whyte started to warm to his task, and his rival was eating a heavy volume of blows, while somehow withstanding the Whyte onslaught.

However, his resistance was broken at the end of the seventh round, retired by his corner.

“I hit him with a lot of shots,” Whyte told DAZN post-fight.

“He’s a tough man.

“I’m glad as well, because he gave me the rounds I needed.

“This is what 10 rounds in two years, so I’m happy.”

Perez destroys Duffus

At cruiserweight, former world title challenger, Mike Perez needed just over 30 seconds to score a devastating win against Israel Duffus (20-13, 17 KOs).

A left hand stiffened the legs of Duffus (20-13, 17 KOs) and Perez (30-3-1, 21 KOs) landed the shot again to maximum effect, flattening the Panama man, who rose just before the end of the count, but was all over the place and the contest was halted.

Carty blasts out Mielonen

Unbeaten Irish heavyweight, Thomas Carty (10-0, 9 KOs) was too good for Finland’s Mika Mielonen (7-3, 6 KOs), scoring five knockdowns in all in a third round stoppage win.

Remaining Undercard

In six rounders, London-based super featherweight, Jermaine Dhliwayo (4-0, 1 KO) won on points against Jonatas Rodrigo Gomes de Oliveira (6-18, 5 KOs), flooring the Brazilian along the way, and Georgian middleweight Nikoloz Sekhniashvili (10-2, 7 KOs) scored a fourth round knockdown against Omir Rodriguez (15-24-1, 6 KOs), before winning 60-53 on all three cards after six.

At super middleweight, Cathal Crowley (6-0, 3 KOs) scored a stoppage win against Mikolaj Rabczak (2-5, 2 KOs).

Sedem Ama (4-0, 1 KO) stayed unbeaten, winning her super welterweight clash with Ester Konecna (7-31-2, 2 KOs)  clearly on the scorecards.
