Dillian Whyte believes Anthony Joshua must put a dent in Daniel Dubois in the early stages of their upcoming heavyweight battle.

Joshua bids to become a three-time heavyweight world champion, when he faces IBF titlist, Dubois in an all-British showdown on September 21 at Wembley Stadium.

Whyte saw a money-spinning rematch with ‘AJ’ scrapped last year after returning an adverse finding from a pre-fight Voluntary Anti-Doping Association [VADA] test.

The Brixton man was cleared in March with an investigation confirming that the positive drugs test was caused as a result of a contaminated supplement.

Whyte was stopped by his rival in 2015 and insists the Watford man must not allow the 26-year-old to get into a rhythm.

“Tough fight. I think [Joshua] needs to get to Dubois early,” the 36-year-old told IFLTV.

“If Dubois gets confidence, he’s a massive problem.

“He needs to jump on him early and start landing right hands early, because if Dubois starts double jabbing and starts throwing combinations it could be a long night for Joshua.”

Joshua and Dubois were almost involved in an altercation during a face-to-face interview to promote their clash, with ‘AJ’ threatening to throw a chair at his former sparring partner.

Whyte believes that Joshua was attempting to gain a mental advantage over Dubois after the Londoner suggested he was ready to fight him on set.

“It’s different,” he added.

“He knows Dubois is younger than him.

“He’s just trying to control him and get that I’m bigger than you and better than you mentally over.

“Dubois stood up for himself, he didn’t back down so yeah.

“That’s what we want to see in boxing, we don’t want rubbish fights, we want excitement.”

Whyte returned to action with a third round retirement victory over Christian Hammer in Ireland in March.

‘The Body Snatcher’ is targeting a September return and insists a rematch with ‘AJ’ remains a priority.

“I want to fight Joshua and he says he still wants to fight me as well, so let’s see.

“You know, obviously heavyweight boxing you’re one or two fights away from getting right back in the picture, so let’s see.

“If I have another two good performances then you never know.

“I just wanna fight the best people and that’s it.

“Let’s get it on.”
