Dillian Whyte has given a scathing assessment of heavyweight rival Deontay Wilder and insists the American is not keen on facing him.
Whyte spent several years as number one contender to then-WBC champion, Wilder although a fight never materialised between the pair, who both subsequently suffered defeats to Tyson Fury.
Wilder, who returned after a year out to knock out Robert Helenius inside one round earlier this month, is set to be ordered to face Andy Ruiz Jr in a final eliminator for the WBC crown at the WBC’s convention in Mexico next month.
Whyte claims ‘The Bronze Bomber’ has yet to face anyone of a high calibre in his 46-fight professional career, labelling him a ‘con man’.
“I heard that Wilder still doesn’t want to fight me,” the 34-year-old told Mail Sport.
“He is the biggest fraud in all of sport, never mind boxing.
“Who doesn’t fight his number one contender for over four years and then claims he is the greatest of all time?
“He hasn’t actually beaten anyone of note yet.
“He is just a cowardly con man.”
‘The Body Snatcher’ will make his own return to the ring on November 26 when he faces unbeaten American, Jermaine Franklin at the OVO Arena, seven months after a sixth round stoppage defeat to Fury at Wembley Stadium.
The Londoner has relocated to California to work under the tutelage of highly-esteemed trainer, Buddy McGirt and the former world title challenger says he will send a reminder to the division of his capabilities.
“It’s great to be back, doing what I love doing,” Whyte said.
“I can’t wait to get into the ring and show the world that when push comes to shove I can get right back up in Wembley and remind everyone why I was WBC number one for over four years.
“As an undefeated Heavyweight, Franklin is a dangerous guy but I’m going to teach him quite a few lessons at the OVO on November 26.
“Most importantly, I’m going to teach him how to lose.”
