This event will be Limond’s first since his unsuccessful challenge against four weight World Champion Erik ‘El Terrible’ Morales, for the vacant WBC Silver Light Welterweight title, in Mexico City back in September.
During his eleven year, thirty six fight, career Glasgow’s Limond has had just three losses, each against top class opposition. Besides his aforementioned recent loss to Morales the only others were against Amir Khan, when they clashed for the Limond’s Commonwealth Lightweight title in March 2008, and ‘Amazing’ Alex Arthur when Limond challenged him for his British Super Featherweight crown July 2003.
Limond is currently in Mexico sparring with former foe Erik Morales, to both help Morales prepare for his 9th April Las Vegas showdown with Argentina’s Marcos Rene Maidana as well as to prepare himself for his Belfast debut on the 2nd April.
Speaking at the Ultrachem TKO Gym in London, where various of his fighters were sparring to prepare for ‘Fists of Fury’, Graham Earl said, “First of all it’s great to be putting on my first show in Belfast on April 2nd, at the King’s Hall. There’s going to be some great support there.
Having Willie on board with us is something else. He’s the top fighter in the camp, with that CV I never expected it. Me and Willie get on well and we’ve trained together when I was boxing. He knows I’m a straight guy and it’s good we’re doing business together.
We are still working on Willie’s opponent. It’s got to be the right fight because we want him to go again next month. Saying that, it will be a good match-up. I’m not a believer of having the odds 70/30 in favour of the home fighter.
His problem is a lack of fights. He’s had one fight a year or two if he’s lucky and he often gets a call, when he hasn’t fought, to go in against an up and coming prospect for Frank Warren. Fighters need to keep busy and two a year is not enough, so we are looking to improve on that.”
Willie Limond, against a yet to be named opponent, will be headlining the Graham Earl promoted ‘Fists of Fury’ event at King’s Hall, Belfast on Saturday 2nd April 2011.
Graham has put together a superb undercard featuring the cream of local talent and includes the long awaited showdown between Tommy Tolan and Phil Townley. Another explosive local needle match sees Damian Taggert finally come face to face with Paddy McGarrity.
Popular Middleweight prospect Joe ‘The Belfast Banger’ Hillerby is set for his home debut, against a yet to be named opponent, as are Ian Boyd and Michael McLaughlin who will be looking to get the first win under their belts in front of a home crowd.
Local lads Sean Montgomery, Paidrag McCrory, Mark Morris and Mark Ginley will all be making their pro debuts on the 2nd April.
Finally Graham will be bringing over his big punching unbeaten Light Welterweight prospect Terry Holmes.
