World Heavyweight Champion Wladimir Klitschko (59-3, 51 KOs) scored a twelve round unanimous decision over previously unbeaten Mariusz Wach (27-1, 15 KOs) on Saturday night at the sold out o2 World Arena in Hamburg, Germany. “Dr. Steelhammer” was much more aggressive than usual and dominated from the opening bell. Scores were 120-107, 120-107, 119-109 in a complete blowout of a fight. Take a look at some more details from the event and the fight action photos right here.
Wladimir: “I have a lot of respect for Mariusz Wach. I didn’t know a man could take so much punishment, but he kept going. There was no shot that would take him out.”
The fight was the first time the 6’6 Klitschko has ever fought a taller opponent and the first time in nine years Wladimir didn’t have the late Hall of Fame trainer Emanuel Steward in his corner.
In Germany, RTL television drew up to 12,44 million viewers (market share 61,8%).
It was a very strong showing from Wladimir, but a little bit disappointing he wasn’t able to close the show and score a big knockout victory.
