Boxer of the week – Frazer Clarke

Having been instrumental in the British Lionhearts’ win over Morocco Atlas Lions at the weekend, super heavyweight Frazer Clarke has been named Boxer of the Week for World Series of Boxing’s fourth week of Season VI.

It was an impressive debut in Casablanca for the 24 year-old Burton boxer who controlled the contest from the outset and delivered a huge right-hander to put opponent Ahmed Bourous on the canvas at the end of the third round. The Moroccan recovered, but the unanimous judges’ decision looked inevitable at the final bell and Clarke’s promising WSB career got off to the perfect start.

Born in 1991, Frazer Clarke began boxing at the Burton Amateur Boxing Club under the tutelage of Richard Joyce, and by 2009 had been crowned English Champion. A year later the youngster won Commonwealth Games bronze, and went on to land silver medals in 2013 at the Bocskai Memorial and the Feliks Stamm Memorial tournaments in Hungary and Poland.

The gold medals eventually flowed a year later as Clarke won first the Strandja Memorial in Bulgaria, then the Tammer Tournament in Finland and the Golden Belt in Romania, fully establishing himself on the international circuit and culminating in a European Union title in Bulgaria in August 2014.

After taking gold at the Rio Boxing Test Event last December, Clarke now has his sights firmly set on qualification for Rio 2016. He will face stiff competition for the super heavyweight spot from fellow Brit Joe Joyce, but with his WSB career off to a flying start, a place at the Games, and indeed a podium finish, look well within his grasp.

Team of the Week

Having taken five matches to register a first away victory in Season V, the British Lionhearts made it two wins on the road out of two so far this campaign with an impressive display in Casablanca earning the title of Team of the Week in the process.

Punch of the Week

Shukhrat Abdullaev from Uzbek Tigers receives a well-deserved title of Punch of the Week as he demolished the defence of his opponent Mikhail Dauhaliavets of Azerbaijan Baku Fires and maintained a ferocious intensity throughout the bout.

WSB TV Magazine – Week 4

Week 4 of WSB Season VI saw Azerbaijan Baku Fires hold off Uzbek Tigers 3-2 in a spectacular night in Baku and British Lionhearts tame Morocco Atlas Lions 3-2 in Casablanca. Week 4 came to a close in Miami as the USA Knockouts powered past Mexico Guerreros to earn their first win of the season.
