Ukraine Otamans enjoy 4-1 away victory over British Lionhearts in London
The disappointing form of the British Lionhearts in the World Series of Boxing (WSB) continued with a 4-1 home defeat to Ukraine Otamans in London.
This result was important for the Ukrainian Franchise who earned their first victory in four WSB matches, which keeps alive their chances of qualifying from Group A.
Ukraine started the match 1-0 up after British Light flyweight (49 kg) Ashley Williams could not compete in his match with Uzbekistan’s 5-0 number two ranked Hasanboy Dusmatov.
A Bantamweight (56 kg) clash between Britain’s Qais Ashfaq and Ukraine’s Mykola Butsenko was controversially stopped in the fifth round due to a cut suffered by Ashfaq, and the match was awarded to Butsenko.
Samuel Maxwell earned his third win of the season for the Lionhearts with a comfortable and entertaining points win over Light welterweight (64 kg) Mger Oganisian.
The Otamans secured the overall victory in fight number four as Heavyweight (91 kg) Denys Poyatsyka remained undefeated after his bout with Romania’s Ionut-Mirel Jitaru was stopped early.
A disappointing evening for the Lionhearts was made worse in the final match of the evening, when star Middleweight (75 kg) Anthony Fowler was outpointed by Hurshidbek Normatov.
British Lionhearts are at home again next week against Morocco Atlas Lions, while Ukraine Otamans host China Dragons.
Cuba Domadores on cloud nine after thrashing Algeria Desert Hawks
World Series of Boxing (WSB) Season IV Champions Cuba Domadores have now enjoyed nine straight victories in the fifth edition of the tournament after defeating Algeria Desert Hawks 5-0 in Havana.
The result leaves Cuba in prime position to qualify from Group A, while Algeria will be pleased with the heart shown by their boxers.
3-2 Cuban Light flyweight (49 kg) Joahnys Oscar Argilagos Perez earned his first victory in three matches as he won every round against Algeria’s 0-2 Zoheir Toudjine.
Bantamweight (56 kg) Andy Cruz Gomez then went 3-0 in WSB with a wide points decision verdict over Desert Hawk Fahem Hammachi.
2012 AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships gold medalist Kevin Hayler Brown Bazain made his WSB debut for Cuba at Light welterweight (64 kg) and snapped the two fight win streak of Mohamed Boudiaf in the process.
With the overall victory already secured, Middleweight (75 kg) Domadores Arlen Lopez resumed his quest for Rio 2016 qualification by stopping Ilyas Abbadi in round one of their contest
In the last fight of the evening, Cuban Heavyweight (91 kg) Erislandy Savon secured his fifth win of Season V, and his 12th consecutive WSB victory over Bouziane Houna.
Masterful Mexico Guerreros earn fourth win in a row away to Morocco Atlas Lions
The in-form Mexico Guerrero clinched their fourth successive World Series of Boxing victory after defeating Morocco Atlas Lions 3-2 in Casablanca.
This result improves Mexico’s chances of qualifying from Group A, while Morocco will take heart from a spirited performance.
Mexico’s third ranked Light flyweight (49 kg) Joselito Velázquez Altamirano enjoyed his fourth win of the season when he stopped Morocco’s 1-4 Zouhair El Bekkali in round two of their bout.
Atlas Lion Bantamweight (56 kg) Said Malek then earned his first WSB win with a solid points victory over Brian González.
WSB’s second ranked Light welterweight (64 kg) Raúl Curiel García improved his chances of qualification for Rio 2016 when he edged a close split decision verdict against Morocco’s Hamza El Barbari.
Middleweight (75 kg) Said Harnouf earned his first WSB success in three attempts for Morocco with a comfortable points decision over 1-4 Misael Uriel Rodríguez Oliva.
Mexico finally clinched the overall victory at Heavyweight (91 kg) as Guerrero debutant Julio Cesar Castillo Torres was superb against Vitalijus Subacius.
Morocco Atlas Lions travel to British Lionhearts next week, while Mexico Guerreros visit Algeria Desert Hawks.
Russian Boxing Team go 25-0 at home after defeating China Dragons
A rampant Russian Boxing Team maintained their flawless home record in the World Series of Boxing with a 5-0 victory over China Dragons.
This result means the Russian Franchise have now won all 25 legs at home this season.
Light flyweight (49 kg) Vasilii Egorov earned his third successive victory with a wide points win over Chinese debutant Xin Huang.
3-0 Bantamweight (56 kg) Vladimir Nikitin then defeated China’s Klitschko Brothers Youth Tournament winner Wang Long in an entertaining bout.
The overall victory was assured for Russia at Light welterweight (64 kg) when 3-0 Vitaliy Dunaytsev won every round against Jun Yang.
Russian Middleweight (75 kg) Petr Khamukov is a dark horse for Olympic qualification in his weight class, and his chances were boosted as he earned his third straight stoppage win over Huang Jiabin.
