At the top of a NXTGEN show at Utilita Arena, Birmingham, 2020 Olympic champion Galal showed his top-class pedigree once more, as he ruthlessly halted former British and Commonwealth champion Tommy Frank inside a round in their flyweight meeting.

Yafai (5-0, KO4) defended his WBC International title for third time, and Frank (15-4-1, KO3) was no match for the Brummie, who dealt with the challenge he faced with ease.

A massive overhand right had Frank down in the opening frame, and in just 100 seconds, the sheer volume of punches from Yafai overwhelmed Frank, and his corner had seen enough early on, throwing in the towel for their man to signal an end to the bout, with Yafai taking an emphatic win.

On the undercard, Cyrus Pattinson (6-1, KO4) saw hopes of a local derby with Lewis Ritson go up in smoke, as he was decked three times by Conah Walker (12-2-1, KO3) before being retired by his corner at the end of eight rounds. Pattinson was down in each of rounds three, five and six, and both men were cut in a thriller, but it was Wolverhampton’s Walker that took victory.

Solomon Dacres (7-0, KO2) continued his education with a ten round points win at heavyweight against South Africa’s Chris Thompson (12-5-1, KO7). Dacres came through by two scores of 99-91, and a third at 98-92.

The rematch between Jordan Flynn (9-0-1, KO1) and Kane Baker (19-10-2, KO1) proved inconclusive, as the pair fought to a draw in their super featherweight ten rounder. Flynn won their original meeting in April by two points over eight rounds, but this time they couldn’t be separated, as Baker came off the canvas in the second round. The final round was crucial, as Flynn was docked a point, and the referee scored the contest 94-94.

In the sole eight round contest, Khaleel Majid (11-0, KO3) dropped Alessandro Fersura (9-5, KO1) in the opening round to a 78-73 victory at super lightweight.

Aaron Bowen (3-0, KO2) knocked out Wilmer Baron (6-2, KO5) in the second round of their scheduled six at middleweight, and Muhammad Mustafa Ali (3-0, KO1) scored a first early win, stopping Francisco Rodriguez (1-17, KO1) in the third round of four at super bantamweight.

Debutant Ibraheem Sulaimaan (1-0, KO1) impressed, stopping Michel Gonxhe (5-5-1, KO0) in round one at lightweight, and fellow first-timer Sahil Khan (1-0, KO0) took all four rounds at bantamweight against Sean Jackson (0-15-1).
